Manchester Historic Association
Dear
Friends,
I would
like to share a few thoughts with you as I come to the end of my first full
year as Executive Director of the Manchester Historic Association. In the past
few months I have enjoyed many good conversations with my fellow Manchester natives,
and with newcomers, tourists, students and researchers. It has been a pleasure
and an honor to work with our fine staff, and our devoted and knowledgeable
trustees and other dedicated volunteers. Getting to know our members and other
supporters has been inspirational. I am pleased to count myself in your
collective company, as I have been an active member and supporter of the
Association myself for over 20 years.
This year
has included many amazing moments for the MHA. The opening events for the Abraham
Lincoln: Manchester Remembers exhibit were outstanding and attracted
national attention. Our 17th Annual Historic Preservation
Awards dinner celebrated the best of Manchester’s preservation and
stewardship efforts. The Historic Architecture of Manchester Tour was a
delightful success; and our recent Night at the Millyard Museum and Holiday
Open House events were enjoyed by many. Our tours, lectures and concerts
provided unique adult education opportunities, and our school programs enriched
the lives of over 1,000 young students from Manchester and the region.
In
addition, the MHA continued its work to collect, preserve and share documents
and artifacts that tell Manchester’s stories. Among these artifacts was the
Pandora sign, which we saved from certain destruction, and some fascinating
ancient ice harvesting tools that emerged from the muddy shores of Black Brook
on Manchester’s West Side.
As a nonprofit educational organization, the Association counts on the
support of friends like you. This year has been particularly tough on our
finances due to the economy, and next year will also be very challenging. We
are grateful for your past support, and ask you to please be as generous as you
can this year as you make your donation to our Heritage Fund. Your gift will
help keep the Millyard Museum and the Research Center open for you and everyone
who loves Manchester’s history.
Sincerely,
Aurore Eaton
Executive Director
Did you know?
The Manchester Historic Association charges only $3
per student for its school programs. This helps local schools to afford
meaningful educational field trips for their students that open their eyes to
the wonderful history that is all around them.
The Manchester Historic Association also provides
discounted admission fees for groups from local social service agencies who
visit the Millyard Museum. These visits provide an enriching experience that
adds to the quality of life of local residents.
Thank you for helping to make these and our other
programs possible!
