Frequently Asked Questions
We’re so glad you found us! Here are some frequently asked questions to introduce us!
What is the difference between the Millyard Museum and the Manchester Historic Association?
In short, nothing! The Manchester Historic Association operates two locations, the Millyard Museum at 200 Bedford Street, and the MHA Research Center at 129 Amherst Street. Our staff work at both locations, and oversee the collection, exhibits, and events.
Why do you have some records in your collection, but not others?
We are a repository for Manchester, and do not solicit the public for donations. The collection that has been amassed over the past 130 years is a reflection of citizens and businesses who have chosen to donate their records, photographs, and items to our organization.
Do you offer field trips?
Yes! We offer a wide variety of programs for field trips and can accommodate all school groups. For more information, check out the “Education Programs” tab on our website. If you have additional questions, please email schoolprograms@manchesterhistoric.org
What services do you offer at the Research Center?
The Research Center houses many of our paper archives and records. We often receive requests regarding property history, family genealogy or specific collections. Please check out the “Catalog & Holdings” tab on the website for additional information about the scope of our collection.
Do you hire volunteers or interns?
We do on a case-by-case basis! Our volunteers and interns may range in their responsibilities but can include assisting patrons at the museum front desk, helping to process donations at our Research Center, or helping with our education programs. Please reach out to Ashley or Jeff for more information.
If I win a Historic Preservation Award, will there be a historic easement on my property or any other regulations?
No! The organization and state do not control your property or its contents if we select your house or its contents as an award recipient. The award is intended to honor and recognize individuals, businesses and organizations who have made significant preservation efforts. More information can be found under the “Historic Preservation Awards” tab, including the nomination form and a list of previous winners.
